The National Centre of Music has produced a ¨Protocol for the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence¨ for the French Music Industry.

  • At the request of the Minister of Culture, and in collaboration with the ministry’s gender equality mission, the CNM (Centre national de la musique) initiated the formalisation of a protocol aimed at preventing and treating situations of gender-based and sexual violence in the field of music professions.
  • After consultation with professionals, the CNM makes several proposals which are addressed to all actors in the sector, public and private, and which are part of a more global approach for the promotion of gender equality and prevention of violence.
  • The CNM proposes a protocol intended for employers in the music and variety industry in order to prevent violence and to people who are victims or report acts of harassment so that they can receive a protective and appropriate response.
  • The CNM will offer training and support tools to help professionals in this process.
  • The CNM, from January 2021, will make its aid conditional on compliance with this protocol with gradual implementation throughout the year.

Objectives of the protocol:

  • Propose a series of measures for use by professionals in the music sector to prevent sexist harassment and sexual violence and know how to manage situations if necessary.
  • This protocol is intended to be respected by the legal representatives of the music and variety of companies.
  • Commit the structures to each employee and to any person required to collaborate with the company (service provider, volunteer, etc.)
  • Commit any structure receiving the public to guarantee public safety within the framework of its activities.
