MUSIC x AFEM Academy: Strategic Community Building
A cohort-based programme for music professionals
MUSIC x and AFEM present a cohort-based, interactive course for community builders across the music ecosystem.
Across six live Zoom sessions, you will step back from day-to-day tactics and build a clearer strategy for your community: who and what it is for, how to measure success, where to build, and how to design for healthy growth as it scales.
This course is designed for people running or developing communities, including those for artists, labels, managers, platforms, events, and industry organisations, ranging from independents to larger teams.
Each session combines teaching, guest practitioners sharing leading perspectives (for example Nina Kehagia, Gabriela Gironas) and peer discussion, alongside applied exercises.
You will leave with:
- Greater clarity on your community’s purpose
- Stronger language to articulate its role internally and externally
- Practical frameworks you can apply immediately
Schedule
Schedule
The course runs over the final three weeks of May on the following dates: May 11, 18, 20, 26, 28. Each session starts at 8am PT, 11am ET, 5pm CET, 10:30pm IST.
Session 1:
Building the right model for your context. The first session gives you a no-hype foundation in community building and will leave you with practical frameworks and the key levers (purpose, trust, participation, governance) to build a community that lasts.
Session 2:
No vanity metrics. In session two you work through how your community shows up in the world. You will connect brand and visibility to the right metrics of success, backed by the Community Worksheet and guest practitioners Yvonne Hartmann and Nina Kehagia.
Session 3:
Scaling with care. In session three you learn what actually happens when a community scales. You will leave with practical paths to protect culture, connection, and experience as growth shifts the community dynamics.
Session 4:
Platform noise is real. Session four is about providing clear criteria for choosing where to build your community. You will develop a smart plan for which platforms are worth investing your energy into.
Session 5:
Ready to execute. In this wrap-up session, you will present your strategy and get input via structured peer feedback on risks and opportunities. You will walk away with a clear route to building momentum.
