DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

MISSION STATEMENT

The Diversity & Inclusion Working Group is dedicated to fostering a global electronic music community that is equitable, inclusive, and representative of its diverse voices. Through advocacy, education, and actionable initiatives, we strive to dismantle barriers, amplify underrepresented talent, and cultivate a culture of belonging where everyone—regardless of race, gender, sexuality, ability, or socioeconomic background—can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the future of electronic music.

Sexual Harassment Helpline: AFEM membership pays for a supported confidential helpline which provides a safe and supportive environment for anyone who has been affected by sexual harrasment in the workplace and needs guidance and support. Call 0800 030 5182, (Outside the UK: +44 800 030 5182) where trained experts will listen and support.

Code of Conduct: Our Diversity & Inclusion working group have delivered the AFEM Code of Conduct Against Sexual Harassment & Gender Discrimination. Much of AFEM’s membership and the wider electronic music industry is made up of small and medium sized businesses, many of whom do not have HR departments or official codes of conduct. The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to prevent sexual harassment and gender/gender identity discrimination within the electronic music industry and AFEM Member companies by creating an environment where such behaviour is not tolerated, through awareness, education, increased respect, protection and prevention.

Electronic Music Inclusion Collective (EMII): AFEM has partnered with the unique InChorus platform who have developed a collaborative concept aimed at moving the whole industry along on a journey of improvement around systemic racism, sexism, and harassment. The EMII incident reporting tool can be found here.  If your company is interested in participating in this initiative, please contact membership@afemorg.net

AFEM has supported the launch of the Creative Industry Standards Authority, the purpose of which is to uphold and improve standards of behaviour across the creative industries and to prevent and tackle all forms of bullying and harassment.

Diversity Charter: We have a diversity charter for AFEM partnered conferences in a commitment to deliver diverse and inclusive speaker lineups.  In addition to attendance, providing resources for public speaking and giving a safe space to empower more speakers.
